The Irish Department of Justice and Equality have announced that from 11th December 2017, the previous
registration certificate (GNIB card) has been replaced by a new registration certificate called the Irish
Residence Permit (IRP). The new permit is based on EU standards, including:

  • New design, based on EU colour and layout rules
  • New information, including a brief description of your immigration permission.
  • New features, including robust security and identity protection.

All existing travel and immigration rules still apply and the IRP does not give holders any new rights or
entitlements. In Dublin, the IRP will be issued by mail after registration. The process outside Dublin has not changed.
